Retractable RV Awnings

Retractable RV awnings are great for those who love camping., traveling and spending time on the road either in their rv, camper or caravan.

Wanting to expand their camping space outside the small confines of their camper, vacationers are faced with the problem of the weather which can change hourly in some places. To overcome the worst vagaries of the elements some people try to erect shade canopies or stretch a tarp between the camper and nearby trees to resolve this problem.

However the use of retractable RV awnings is something that can help people in solving this problem and having a nicer camping experience. Many modern motor homes, recreational vehicles, campers, caravans and travel trailers have retractable awnings installed, either by the manufacturer or as an aftermarket installation. A small enclosed screen porch apart from the zippered side panels and a large RV awning mat can also be attached to your RV. Most of these awnings are made with weather resistant fabrics.

Despite its great features, there is a drawback in these awnings. They might be very useful during camping, but they need to be replaced periodically. There are certain things that have to be kept in mind before making the transition from one awning to another. If your experience with your previous RV awnings retractable have been pleasant, then it is best to get the same model by the manufacturer. By getting the same make and the model, you can be sure of the fit and that it is suitable for your vehicle. If you want to replace the fabric of your old retractable awning, then you must stay away from cheap and inferior fabrics. Such fabrics would never give the fade resistance and durability of Sunbrella and Dickson fabrics.

Shades for RV Patio Awnings

You might also consider getting some shades for your RV patio awnings so that you can shade majority of the area underneath your awning. This sets the foundation for whole new area outside your trailer.

Many retractable RV awnings do not have sufficient support along the side edges, and the edges tend to flap in the wind. Those loose edges can also allow pools of rainwater to collect in the center of the awning. These awnings will shade one side of your camper from the sun, and will provide shade for a small outdoor seating area when the sun is high — but the morning and evening sun may shine in under the awning, and this would bring unwanted heat and glare.

Awning Side Curtains

A good solution to this problem is to attach side curtains to the awning. Despite these problems RV awnings continue to be very popular and the practicality, functionality and enjoyment to be derived from retractable rv awnings make them an worthwhile investment.
